Morocco’s national team will face Niger twice in November in the third and fourth rounds of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with both matches played at home. Coach Mohamed Ouahbi’s side arrives at the double-header as leader of Group A.
Dates and venues
- Friday, November 13: Morocco vs Niger at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, 8 p.m. local time.
- Tuesday, November 17: Niger vs Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, 8 p.m. local time. Niger is listed as the nominal home side even though the match is played in Morocco.
Hespress reported that the first match will be refereed by Somalia’s Omar Abdulkadir Artan, while Ethiopia’s Tewodros Mitiku will take charge of the second. Ouahbi is due to announce his squad on November 5, according to Morocco World News, which cited Al Mountakhab.
Where Group A stands
Morocco have six points from two games, after 2-0 wins over Gabon in Rabat on September 25 and over Lesotho in South Africa on September 29. Gabon and Niger each have three points, while Lesotho have none, Morocco World News reported.
Morocco will close their qualifying campaign in March 2027 against Gabon and Lesotho. The finals are scheduled for June 19 to July 17, 2027, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, with 48 teams in 12 groups in the qualifiers.
The fixtures come shortly after Moroccan sport’s recent success on the futsal court, covered in our report on Morocco’s fourth Futsal Africa Cup of Nations title, and as the country continues to build for 2030, as outlined in our look at the Grand Stade Hassan II.
A win in Casablanca would put the Atlas Lions in a strong position before the return fixture four days later.
