Wydad Casablanca have appointed Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi as head coach of their first team on a one-year contract, the club confirmed on its official social media accounts on October 23, according to Hespress English.
A change after a slow start
Nabi takes over from Portuguese manager Paulo Sérgio, who arrived in July. Morocco World News reported that after four Botola Pro matches Wydad had one win, two draws and one defeat, five points in all, leaving them ninth. Their most recent game was a 1-1 home draw with Amal Tiznit.
A familiar face in Moroccan football
The Tunisian is no newcomer to the league. The reports say his CV includes:
- AS FAR in 2023-24, when the club finished second in the league and reached the Throne Cup final;
- Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, where he won a domestic cup in 2025;
- Raja Casablanca, Wydad’s city rivals, which he left before the current season.
Former Wydad player Naïm Aarab, who was at the club from 2017 to 2019, and Tunisian coach Souhaib Zerouk are named as his assistants by Hespress, though Africa Soccer said the make-up of the backroom staff was still being negotiated earlier in the week.
Nabi’s arrival comes as Moroccan clubs are busy on the continent too. Wydad’s neighbours Raja have just reached the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, adding extra spice to Casablanca’s football calendar.
With a short contract and a club hungry for results, the new coach will be judged quickly. His first task is to turn Wydad’s draws into wins and lift them from mid-table in a league where every point counts early in the season.
