What the Temara plant makes
The site produces electrical cables, equipment and wiring harnesses for major aircraft makers. Its programmes include the Airbus A320 and A350, Airbus Helicopters aircraft and the H160 helicopter. Development of the site began in 2005 after Safran integrated Gespec, and the plant was inaugurated in 2006.
Speakers at the event included Bruno Bellanger, chairman and CEO of Safran Electrical & Power, who linked the company’s electrical focus to the aviation industry’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. Leila El Ghrib, president of Safran Electrical & Power Morocco, stressed partnerships with universities and training institutions to build local skills.
Safran in Morocco’s aerospace industry
Safran has about 5,000 employees across 10 Moroccan sites, and its first Moroccan subsidiary dates back to 1999. The group is also building a landing gear plant in Nouaceur, a LEAP engine repair facility in Casablanca and a LEAP-1A engine assembly line for Airbus, with combined announced investments above €350 million and more than 2,000 hires projected over five years.
The wider sector has grown quickly. Morocco has nearly 150 aerospace companies, about 17,000 direct employees and record exports of MAD 26.45 billion in 2024, roughly 5% of total exports. The Ministry of Industry targets 50,000 direct jobs and 60% local content by 2030.
The expansion adds to a busy period for Moroccan business: see our reports on 60,908 new companies registered by July and the Masen 350 MW solar tender.
