The Istiqlal Party has appointed Madiha Khayr to succeed Allal Amraoui, who led its group in the 2021–2026 term. The Left Alliance, which brings together the Federation of the Democratic Left and the Unified Socialist Party, is set to name two women to lead its joint group, with the presidency rotating between the two parties. The shift follows a historic appointment. King Mohammed VI named Marrakesh mayor El Mansouri prime minister on 29 September, a week after her party won the elections. Her Authenticity and Modernity Party took 97 of the 395 seats, ahead of the National Rally of Independents with 66 and Istiqlal with 65. Without a majority, she must negotiate a coalition. Istiqlal’s national council has already voted unanimously to join her government. (moroccos first woman premier pledges to meet citizens expectations +3)
The numbers still lag behind the symbolism. Women held about 24% of lower-house seats in 2025, and Morocco ranked 99th worldwide for women’s parliamentary representation.
