Google Cloud Adds OpenAI GPT-6 Models in Private Preview

Google Cloud OpenAI models: abstract illustration of cloud data centre servers

Google Cloud has added three OpenAI models to its Model Garden platform in a private preview, the company announced this week. The GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models are available first to selected enterprise customers.

Which OpenAI models are on Google Cloud?

According to Techzine, GPT-6 Astra is aimed at heavy workloads such as coding and scientific research. GPT-6.1 Sol is described as close to Astra in capability at a lower cost, while GPT-6 Luna is a fast, low-cost model for routine work at scale. Model Garden already offers more than 200 models, the outlet reports.

  • GPT-6 Astra: for demanding tasks
  • GPT-6.1 Sol: strong capability at lower cost
  • GPT-6 Luna: fast, low-cost everyday responses

How billing and data handling work

Businesses buy access through Google Cloud Marketplace, and usage appears on a single Google Cloud invoice that counts toward existing cloud spending commitments. It also qualifies for Flexible Savings Plans, which offer lower token costs in exchange for a monthly spending commitment.

Google says customer prompts, context and outputs stay within designated data boundaries and are not used to train foundation models. Zero data retention options and Confidential Compute protections are planned for later.

What it means for developers and businesses

Preview customers can build applications through Google Cloud’s APIs, and developers can connect local Codex CLI and Codex Desktop workflows to Google’s Gemini platform for inference. Support in Gemini for Business and Google Antigravity is planned. Michael Gerstenhaber, Google Cloud’s VP of Product Management, said each workload should be matched “to the right model, rather than relying on a single model for every task.”

The move comes as countries invest in AI infrastructure, a theme also covered in our look at Morocco’s AI 2030 roadmap. For the wider market backdrop, see our preview of this week’s central bank decisions, or browse more in the Economy section.
