Morocco is a year-round destination, but the best time to go depends on what you want to do. The country includes Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts, big cities, high mountains and desert, so weather can differ a lot between regions on the same day. Here is a simple guide by season.
Spring (March to May)
Spring is one of the two best seasons for most visitors. Temperatures are pleasant in the imperial cities such as Marrakech, Fez and Meknes, the countryside is green and the mountains are good for walking. March can still bring rain.
Summer (June to August)
Summer is hot, with inland cities such as Marrakech often passing 40°C. This is the season for the coast: Essaouira, Agadir, Tangier and Asilah are much cooler, and the Atlantic breeze makes Essaouira popular for kitesurfing. It is also high season for prices, as Moroccans living abroad return home and tourist numbers peak. August 2026 crossed 2 million visitors for the first time.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn is the other best season. Days are warm, evenings are cooler and the summer crowds thin out. It is a good time for city visits, food and desert trips.
Winter (December to February)
Winter is mild on the coast and in the south, but nights can be cold inland. Snow falls in the High Atlas, where you can ski at Oukaïmeden, and mountain trekking needs proper winter gear. Prices rise around Christmas and New Year.
Choosing by activity
- Cities and culture: March to May and September to November.
- Beaches and surfing: June to September on the Atlantic coast.
- Desert trips around Merzouga and Zagora: October to April, avoiding midsummer heat.
- Hiking in the High Atlas, including Toubkal: late spring to early autumn, when there is no deep snow.
A note on Ramadan
Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year. During the month, some restaurants close in the daytime and the pace slows, but evenings are lively and the atmosphere is special. Check the dates before booking, and be respectful by avoiding eating or drinking in public during the day.
If you are choosing only one window, April, May, October and early November give the best balance of weather, prices and crowds. For ideas on what to eat once you arrive, read our guide to Moroccan food.
